SUNY Fredonia

Fredonia_picHail, Fredonia!! For anyone who loves the Marx Brothers, Fredonia (they spelled it Freedonia), is a mythical country in their outrageous comedy "Duck Soup."  Well, I want to hail, Fredonia, the college.

Fredonia is one of the 64 campuses of the SUNY (State University of New York) systemIt is the westernmost (is that a word?) campus of New York's public colleges.  I live in Westchester County and Fredonia is a 6 1/2 hour drive!!  If you live on Long Island add at least another 2 hours to the trip.  BUT!!! Don't dismiss this absolutely awesome college because of how far away it is.  SUNY Fredonia is considered THE music college within the SUNY system.  Music majors can study African-American music, composition, conducting, free improvisation, jazz, music business, music criticism, music education, music history and literature, music technology, music theory, music therapy, opera, performance and world music.  Fredonia's School of Music is also home to a program of study that most people probably never think about.  Have you ever thought about training to become a Sound Recording Engineer?  You know, mix live sound for major acts when they are on tour, or how about recording major artists when they are in the studio cutting their next CD?  What about the business of music?  Agents, contracts, tours, concert promotion, artist management, etc.  If you have any interest in any of these aspects of the music industry, then it would be smart (read that as VERY, VERY smart) to take a really good look at SUNY Fredonia (www.fredonia.edu)
