Kevin recently spoke at "College Night" at Heritage Oak Private School in Yorba Linda, CA. And while the event was targeted at their eighth grade families who are preparing for high school, we even had a few of their elementary school families attend, not to find out how to chart a sure path to Harvard, but just to see what was ahead for them. We love an engaged crowd, and Heritage Oak families really seemed to embrace the message Kevin tried to send.
Here are the most important tips we shared:
1. Resist the urge to focus only on improving academic weaknesses.
Academic achievement is important, but so is an interest in learning. Nurture and encourage your child's natural academic strengths and interests, whatever those interests may be. Math, art, science, music, computers--kids who learn to dive into subjects they enjoy will be happier and more engaged learners.
