Collegewise Counselor Spotlight - Jessica DeDomenico
This week's spotlight is on Jessica DeDomenico, a counselor in our White Plains, NY office. Read on to find out what famous people (besides Jessica, of course) graduated from the University of Virginia!
1. Where did you go to college?
I went to the University of Virginia
2. Who was your mascot and what were your colors?
Our official mascot is the Cavalier and our colors are orange and navy. People who go to UVa. are sometimes referred to the “Wahoos.” A wahoo is supposedly a fish that can drink more than its body weight.
3. What was your major?
I majored in Psychology and minored in Art History
4. What was your favorite class?
My favorite class was Adolescent Psychology. Following that course, I knew that I wanted to study secondary school counseling in graduate school so I could become a high school counselor.
5. What kind of student would probably dislike attending your college?
UVa. seems to have a place for everyone though the average student tends to be on the preppy side. Since the school has such a rich history, there are a lot of cooky traditions. I imagine that a student who doesn’t want an overly traditional feel to their school might not like UVa.
6. What’s a campus tradition at your school?
Streaking the Lawn before you graduate. Eating a gus burger (a burger loaded with all the usual fixings including a fried egg on top) at the White Spot. Dressing up for football games.
7. Who is a famous alumni from your college?
Katie Couric, Tiki Barber (played for the Giants)
8. What’s one of your favorite memories from your years at school?
Living in my sorority house. Our house was right across from the Lawn so it was conveniently located to all of my classes. Our chef was an excellent cook and so there was always a good dinner waiting for me. Since there were over 30 college women living in the house at one time, there were always crazy and fun stories that emerged from that experience.
9. What are some of your favorite colleges?
There are so many great schools. It is hard to comment. I have to say that I grew up going to Penn State football games (since my dad went there) and I have always been impressed with all that school has to offer.
10. What did you do before you worked for Collegewise?
I worked as a high school counselor at Mamaroneck High School.
11. What did you write your college essay about?
I wrote one of my UVa. essays about how one summer, I had the opportunity to teach a young girl from war-torn Ireland how to swim. My other essay was about how seeing Renoir’s Girl with a Hoop painting with my second grade class spurred my interest in art history.
12. What do you do besides work at Collegewise?
I chase after my almost two year old son. I have another boy on the way in late July.
